One contractor for solar and electrical, so nothing gets handed off

Most solar companies bring in an outside electrician when your home needs a panel upgrade. Ally holds both licenses, so our own crew handles the roof, the panel and everything in between. Many of our installers have been with us for years.

CSLB license #806465 (C-10 and C-46)

Solar specialists for steep, tile, metal and flat roofs

Bay Area roofs are rarely simple. We plan every mount around your roof type and structure, so your solar goes up cleanly and your roof stays watertight. Every roof penetration is covered for 10 years.

Steep roofs

Our crew works harnessed and tied off on steep pitches, like the Tudor and Craftsman roofs common in Berkeley, Oakland and Piedmont.

Tile roofs

Clay and concrete tile need careful handling and the right mounts. We plan around your tile so the roof stays sound.

Metal roofs

Standing seam and other metal roofs, with mounting matched to the roof profile.

Flat roofs with insulation

Flat and low-slope roofs, including roofs with insulation layers, with racking designed around the roof's structure and waterproofing.

A little sunshine wisdom from our crew

The sun sends no bill. Your roof can start collecting.

Store this afternoon's sunshine for tonight's dinner, and for the next PG&E shutoff.

Fill up on sunshine. Your driveway is the new gas station.

Every watt you make is a watt you don't have to buy.

Cook with induction, heat with a heat pump, and wave goodbye to the gas bill.

One crew, one call, one home that runs on sunshine.

Electrify your home, in the right order

Ready to electrify your home? Going all-electric works best when it's planned around your electrical panel. As a home electrification contractor, we map out each step of your gas-to-electric switch with you, so every upgrade fits the next one and you never pay to redo work.

We handle the electrical side of every step: knob and tube replacement, panels, solar, batteries, EV chargers and the circuits for heat pumps, heat pump water heaters and induction cooking. As a QuitCarbon partner contractor, we help Bay Area homeowners plan the full move off gas.

Plan your home electrification
  1. Home and panel assessment

We check your panel, your PG&E usage and what you want to electrify.

  2. Knob and tube replacement, if needed

Many older Bay Area homes still have it. We replace it so your home can safely handle new electric loads. About knob and tube

  3. Panel upgrade or SPAN smart panel

Enough capacity for everything that comes next, without surprises later.

  4. Solar panels

Sized for the all-electric home you're building toward, not just today's bill.

  5. Add battery backup

Stored solar for evenings and PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoffs.

  6. Electrify your driveway

A Level 2 EV charger, timed to run on your own solar.

  7. Electrify heating, hot water and cooking

The circuits for heat pumps, heat pump water heaters and induction cooking, so your home is fully electric.

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
Benjamin Franklin, writing about fire safety in 1735

He was talking about house fires. We'd say the same about an aging electrical panel. A quick check today can save you a much bigger repair later. Learn about panel upgrades

Frequently asked questions

Is there still a federal solar tax credit in 2026?

For homeowners who buy solar, the federal Residential Clean Energy Credit ended for systems installed after December 31, 2025. You still have options: a prepaid PPA through HDM Capital can lower your upfront price, per HDM's agreement terms, and home batteries may qualify for California's SGIP rebate. For your own tax situation, check with a tax professional.

Are you a solar company or an electrician?

Both. Ally is a licensed solar contractor (C-46) and a licensed electrical contractor (C-10), license #806465. Our own electricians handle solar, batteries, panel upgrades, EV chargers and electrification work.

Can you install solar on a steep, tile, metal or flat roof?

Yes. We specialize in them. We plan mounting around your roof type and structure, including steep pitches, clay and concrete tile, standing seam metal and flat roofs with insulation. Every roof penetration is covered for 10 years.

How much does solar cost in the Bay Area?

Most of our home systems fall between $2.60 and $3.50 per watt. A 6 kW system, for example, runs about $15,600 to $21,000 before rebates or financing. Your exact price depends on roof type, equipment and electrical work.

Is solar still worth it under NEM 3.0?

For most homes, yes, but the design is different now. PG&E pays less for the extra power you send to the grid, so pairing solar with a battery lets you use more of your own energy during expensive evening hours.

What does it mean to electrify your home?

Electrifying your home means replacing gas appliances with electric ones, like a heat pump for heating and cooling, a heat pump water heater, an induction range and an EV charger. Solar and a battery can then power much of it with your own energy.

Do I need to replace knob and tube wiring before I electrify?

Often, yes. Knob and tube wiring wasn't designed for today's electric loads, and many homeowners replace it before adding an EV charger, heat pump or induction range. We inspect what you have and tell you what's needed.

Do I need a panel upgrade to electrify my home?

Not always. We start with a load calculation. Some homes have room, some need a main panel upgrade, and some can use a SPAN smart panel to manage what runs at once.

Where should I start with home electrification?

Start with your electrical panel. Knowing its capacity tells you what your home can add, and in what order, so solar, a battery, an EV charger and heat pumps all fit without redoing work.

Will a battery keep my power on during a PG&E shutoff?

Yes. During an outage, your battery powers the circuits you choose to back up. We help you pick them during design.

What is a prepaid PPA?

It's an agreement through HDM Capital in which HDM owns the system and you pay a lower prepaid amount for its power. Ownership transfers to you in year 6, per HDM's agreement terms, and we're happy to explain how it works.
